Will Young has returned to the stage, this time at HOME in Manchester in a major new production of Song From Far Away by Olivier Award winner Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night–Time) and Mark Eitzel. Song From Far Away is directed by Kirk Jameson, co–produced by Thomas Hopkins, Guy Chapman and HOME. The show runs from tonight (22 February) until Saturday 11th March.

One crisp winter day in New York, Willem receives a phone call – it’s time to go home.
Home to Amsterdam – to an estranged family and forgotten relationships. As he reflects on his life, unwilling to face the future, he finds himself reaching out to the brother he has lost.

This emotional play is an unforgettable story and a personal letter to those left behind.

Will Young came to prominence after winning the 2002 inaugural series of the ITV talent contest Pop Idol, making him the first winner of the worldwide Idol franchise. His double A-sided debut single “Anything Is Possible” / “Evergreen” was released two weeks after the show’s finale and became the fastest-selling debut single in the UK. After winning the competition the following year, he released his debut album From Now On which went straight to number one. His albums have spawned many songs that have achieved top ten positions in the UK, four of which went to the number one spot. Young has also undertaken numerous concert tours and has accumulated multiple honours, including two Brit Awards from 12 nominations, and the estimated worldwide sale of over eight million albums. Alongside his music career, Young has acted in film, on stage and in television. For his performance in the 2013 London revival of the musical Cabaret, he was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. He has also released the books Anything is Possible, On Camera, Off Duty and his autobiography Funny Peculiar also To be a Gay Man and The A-Z of Wellbeing.

He has written English language versions of Jon Fosse’s I Am the Wind; Odon Von Horvath’s Kasimir and Karoline (titled The Funfair); Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House; Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard and The Seagull and Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera. He has presented four series of the Royal Court Playwright’s Podcast. His book “A Working Diary” is published by Methuen. Simon Stephens has been an Associate at the Royal Court, London and Steep, Chicago and a board member of Paines Plough. He has been an Associate Artist at the Lyric, Hammersmith, a Professor of Scriptwriting at Manchester Metropolitan University and an Associate Professor at the Danish National School of the Performing Arts, Copenhagen.
